Edward Enninful will be departing his role as Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue and European Editorial Director of Vogue. Enninful “will be stepping into the newly appointed position of editorial advisor of British Vogue and global creative and cultural advisor of Vogue,” Enninful stated in an internal memo to his staff.
Currently the Heads of Editorial Content at Vogue France, Vogue Italia, Vogue Spain and Vogue Germany report to Enninful. Enninful shared he and Anna Wintour, Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast worldwide and Global Editorial Director of Vogue, “have been discussing how I can play a broader role in enhancing Vogue globally.”
“I am excited to share that from next year I will be stepping into the newly appointed position of Editorial Advisor at British Vogue and Global Creative and Cultural Advisor, Vogue, where I will continue to contribute to the creative and cultural success of the Vogue brand globally whilst having the freedom to take on broader creative projects.”
“To optimise my increased global responsibilities, and to give British Vogue the new focus it will deserve, we saw the opportunity to hire, in concert with our global editorial structure, a Head of Editorial Content for British Vogue.”
“For now everything remains the same, and I’m so excited about what the future holds for us. I would like to thank Roger and Anna for their continued support.”
Edward Enninful took over as Editor-in-Chief of British Vogue in August 2017. Prior to that Edward was Creative and Fashion Director of the American magazine W since 2011. His experience as a fashion editor dates back to 1991 when he was named Fashion Director of the avant-garde British title i-D at the age of 19, a position he held for more than 20 years. In the years between 1998 and 2011 he contributed extensively to American Vogue and Italian Vogue. In December 2020, Enninful was promoted to European Editorial Director of Vogue.
Edward was honored with an OBE in 2016 for Services to Diversity in the Fashion industry. In February 2021, Edward received the BSME Editors’ Editor of the Year Award which recognises extraordinary individuals for their dedication and outstanding editorial contribution to magazines.
In his role at British Vogue, Enninful moved to break boundaries and ushered in a new era for the Vogue publication based in Europe, leading by example and championing greater inclusivity in the fashion industry by expanding the diversity and community covered in British Vogue. In his new role the boundary breaker will look to the same and we look forward to covering the next phase of his journey.
