Boots Over the Knee

Fall 2023 Fashion Trend

Thigh High Boots continue their upward Trajectory!

Footwear continues to be a primary focus throughout A/W 23 collections, from Ladylike pumps, pointed-toe 80s versions of the sexiest kind to thigh-high boots that continue their upward trajectory. In some cases, replacing a skirt or trousers offers a little redemption of cover for fear of total exposure to the female anatomy. S/S 23 saw hemlines rise, with it, the over-the-knee boot; for A/W 23, it’s now the blazer covering just enough derriere to be worn with a pair of fabulous boots.

The appetite for sensuality ran across all cities, showing up at Dion Lee and David Koma with a subversive take on the slick shine boots that traversed their way up from pointed metal-toe tips, accentuating the season’s return to the pointed-toe phenomenon. Mark Fast offered vibrant colour for his skinny-high-heeled versions. At the same time, in her not-so-modest collection, Dilara Findikoglu added gravitas to the sassy dominatrix appeal with lace-up details. Textured leathers were also the order for the season. Matthew Blazy’s versions in the brand’s signature woven leather were begging for long legs to slip into his master-crafted items. Boots also came in soft suede and buttery leather, falling in soft folds at the ankle; Burberry’s comfortable offerings were a perfect addition for a weekend in the country. And building on the comfort factor and the trend towards hardware utility, courtesy of Akris and Isabel Marant, built-up soled items were inset with a multitude of zips. Sportmax paired their take on the direction of thigh-high boots with sheer dresses and lace. And luxurious leathers, key for the minimalist looks, appeared at Khaite, exuding a quiet luxury that underscores much of the fashion month. And it would not be a season without mentioning Rick Owens’s fabulous transparent-heeled, means business, futuristic looks. With so much to choose from, whether flat, high-heeled, or towering solid platforms, the over-the-knee boot stands ground firmly for the season.
