Prada Mode Takes Over Hotel Chelsea for New York Edition

Developed with Nicolas Winding Refn and Hideo Kojima, the event expands their “Satellites” project through a multidisciplinary program

Prada has opened the fourteenth edition of Prada Mode in New York City, transforming the historic Hotel Chelsea into a hub for creative dialogue, performance, and cultural exchange. Developed in collaboration with Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn and Japanese game creator Hideo Kojima, the event coincides with the Tribeca Festival and expands upon their 2025 exhibition Satellites, first presented at Prada Aoyama in Tokyo.

Titled Satellites II, the project examines themes of love, language, creativity, and human connection through a multidisciplinary program spanning conversations, performances, workshops, and installations. Drawing inspiration from the storied history of Hotel Chelsea, the exhibition creates a narrative that moves between public and private spaces, reflecting the intersections between intimacy, communication, and collective experience.

The opening day featured a series of conversations led by Refn and Kojima alongside fellow creatives. Actress and musician Sophie Thatcher joined the pair for a discussion titled Arrogance of Youth, while filmmaker Abel Ferrara participated in Artists We Love, exploring the creative process and the role of failure within artistic practice. Additional programming included performances by The Velveteers, Lydia Lunch, and Precious, as well as workshops hosted by Juno the bakery and KROM Kendama.

Beyond the physical venue, Prada introduced the Prada Mode Channel, a bespoke broadcast platform inspired by analogue television. Developed with Mikael Bertelsen, the channel features a variety of programming formats, from talk shows to horoscopes, extending the event’s reach beyond the Hotel Chelsea and creating an alternative entry point into the project’s themes.

The opening celebrations concluded with a cocktail reception and party at Katz’s Delicatessen, where DJ sets by Grandmaster Flash, Justin Strauss, and Papi Juice continued the evening’s festivities. The choice of venue further reinforced the project’s engagement with New York’s cultural landmarks and communities.

Prada Mode New York opens to the public from June 5 through June 7, with additional programming scheduled across the city. Activations include film screenings at the Angelika Film Center, an installation at the Prada Broadway Epicenter, and exclusive experiences at Katz’s Delicatessen, extending the conversation around creativity and connection beyond the walls of the Hotel Chelsea.
