Thom Browne Releases Campaign Featuring Signature Tartan

Coinciding with New York Fashion Week, on February 15th Thom Browne has shared a portfolio of images featuring his proprietary grey and navy tartan. Thom Browne’s signature tartan design has been an integral part of the brand’s heritage, since it first appeared in his Fall 2006 menswear collection presented during New York Fashion Week.

Thom Browne tartan, listed on the Tartan Registry of Scotland, was first created as a classic wool twill produced by Lochcarron of Scotland, a tartan house dating back to the 1800s. In the years following, Thom Browne tartan has found new life in cashmere, British wool heritage tweeds, French ribbon tweeds, Japanese school uniform twills, heavy cottons, silk mogadors, nylons and other technical fabrics—always utilized to realize the brand’s classic suits and twisted American prep ideology.

Tartan also appears in constructed canvas tailoring, unconstructed soft tailoring, and skirt dressings for men and women, and has extended to outerwear, from transitional shell weight jackets and heavyweight parkas to Browne’s down assortment.

Cashmere and silk knits, footwear and bags, including the signature Mr. and Mrs. Thom and Hector styles have all been envisioned in the custom grey and navy check, reflecting Thom’s continuing interest in working with traditional fabrications to create new timeless silhouettes and collections.

For Fall 2022, Thom Browne introduces tartan into the realm of childrenswear. Showcasing the complete family of tartan, the collection is captured on men, women and children seen inside an 18th century American-inspired frame. A renewed focus on heritage fabrics will be further explored in the Fall 2022 men’s and women’s runway show on April 29th in New York City.
