The best 2019 ad campaigns for intimate apparel were noteworthy both for their inventiveness and their inclusivity. In previous decades, advertisements for lingerie and undergarments have been dominated either by toned and chiseled Aphrodites, or voluptuous beauties that were essentially hyper-sexualized versions of pin-ups that were ubiquitous in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. Refreshingly, the Top 10 ad campaigns for intimates this year celebrated a diverse range of body types, from slender to athletic to plus-sized, and a bit of everything in-between. Furthermore, many campaigns embraced the more playful side of sensuality, from Agent Provocateur’s dance extravaganza, to Coco de Mer’s 1920’s vaudeville-inspired set pieces, to DSquared2 instagram selfies, to Stella McCartney’s fun yet practical outdoors-women who wear tennis shoes and hang their unmentionables on clotheslines to dry. Not sure what the neighbors would think, but we at The Impression definitely approve!
