Yohji Yamamoto Exhibition Announced at 10 Corso Como

“Letter to the Future” Is the First Exhibition of the Legendary Designer’s Work to be Held in Italy and Embodies 10 Corso Como’s New Culture-Forward Approach

10 Corso Como has announced a special exhibition that will lend its culture and fashion-focused Gallery space to a retrospective on the work of legendary designer Yohji Yamamoto – the first dedicated exhibition of the designer’s work to be shown in Italy. Known for his avant-garde approach and challenging the norms of fashion since the outset of his career, Yamamoto’s work has continuously pushed the boundaries of conventional aesthetics.

The project is presented in collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto, 10 Corso Como, and curator Alessio de′ Navasques, showcasing iconic pieces from the designer’s runway, recent collections, and previews of the future. Running from May 16 to July 31, 2024, the exhibition promises an immersive experience, where garments take precedence, conveying a vision of the future beyond temporal constraints.

The renovated Gallery space of 10·Corso·Como, stripped back to its industrial essence, provides a fitting backdrop for Yamamoto’s exploration of universal beauty. The installation aims to underscore Milan and Italy’s standing as epicenters of creativity, with Yamamoto expressing a desire to transcend time, connecting past and present through his designs.

Yamamoto’s distinctive aesthetic, characterized by structured yet ethereal silhouettes, is the focal point of the exhibition. Through a minimalist color palette of white, black, and red, the garments serve as vehicles for exploring the relationship between body and space, challenging traditional notions of gender recognition.

The exhibition is one of the first activations from 10 Corso Como following its revamped structure under the new ownership of Tiziana Faustini, which included the architectural renovation that led to the creation of the gallery space where the exhibition will be held.
