Loewe Announces Crafted World Exhibition in Shanghai

The Jonathan Anderson-Curated Exhibition Celebrates 178 Years of Craft History

Loewe has announced its first major exhibition, Crafted World, which will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre in Spring 2024.

A celebration of the house’s rich history, Spanish heritage, and commitment to the handmade, Crafted World offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in Loewe’s world.. Curated by creative director Jonathan Anderson, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the iconic designs and cultural collaborations across the brand’s evolution from its founding as a leather-making collective in Madrid in 1846 to becoming one of the today’s leading luxury fashion houses.

Spanning 178 years of creativity and innovation, from Loewe’s appointment as an official supplier to the Spanish Royal Crown and acquisition by LVMH and establishment of the Loewe Foundation in the 20th century, to the opening of its first store in China in 2001 and the house’s revitalization by Jonathan Anderson and the founding of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize in the past decade, Crafted World is a showcase of a progressive approach to fashion and the evolving culture of craft over generations.

An interactive journey through time, space, material, and craft techniques, Crafted World unfolds over 1,600 square meters within the Shanghai Exhibition Centre and showcases a broad array of artifacts and artworks. The exhibition transports the audience to the sights and sounds of Spain, the front row of the Paris runway, and, in a series of interactive rooms, inside the visionary imaginations that have inspired the house’s recent collections. From the house’s own atelier in Spain to Indian ribbon-makers, Ecuadorian tapestry artists, South African basket-makers, and Chinese bamboo weavers, the exhibition offers a global deep dive into the workshops and craft disciplines that shape Loewe’s creative output.

Crafted World runs from March 22nd to May 5th, after which it will begin to travel worldwide. The exhibition is open to the public and admission is free.
