Fall 2024 Vol. 1 Ad Campaign

Review of Marni Fall 2024 Vol. 1 Ad Campaign by Photographer Colin Dodgson with models Chiara Pino, Jessica Bagnall, Ghali, and Ileana

Marni evokes elegant urban eclecticism with the first volume of its Fall 2024 campaign. The series of portraits was captured by photographer Colin Dodgson.

The campaign is set to be released across several chapters, exploring the multifaceted perspective of the collection through the lens of different photographers and settings. With its exploration of tailoring and a refined reconsideration of grunge influences, the styling curation for this first chapter marks an intriguing departure from the brand’s Fall 2024 runway show, which served Flinstones-esque caveman couture.

Dodgson puts the eclectic characters who embody this style direction on the street, posing casually in front of some richly rusted and patinated industrial scaffolding. This feels like such a spontaneous setting, and yet it beautifully harmonizes with the collection’s warm neutral tones while symbolically pointing to the idea of historical layering and the passing of time inherent in a well-made, well-worn garment.

The images are nicely finished off with a new hand-painted logo; the scrawling red cursive lends a bold yet playfully twee touch that echoes the sense of tactility present in the styling and its conversation with its urban environment.

While the campaign takes a simple approach that doesn’t delve into high-gloss editorializing or emotional narrative concepts, the thoughtful styling and choice of setting – coupled with the casting that taps into Marni’s signature chosen family of art school dropouts vibe – feel perfectly executed. Coming seamlessly together, these elements make for a campaign that has no shortage of soul or visual impact.
