Duran Lantink Receives Karl Lagerfeld Special Jury Prize; Standing Ground Takes Inaugural Savoir-Faire Prize
Swedish designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson won the 2024 LVMH Prize for Young Designers on Tuesday, presented by Dior ambassador and special jury member Natalie Portman at a ceremony at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris. Larsson, the designer behind the label Hodakova, emerged as the top contender from more than 2,500 applicants. She was awarded the grand prize of 400,000 euros and will receive a year of mentorship from experts at luxury conglomerate LVMH, the parent company of brands such as Louis Vuitton, Sephora, and Dom Pérignon.
The Karl Lagerfeld Special Jury Prize was awarded to Duran Lantink, a Dutch designer known for his focus on sustainability and upcycling. The prize, presented by Robert Pattinson, includes 200,000 euros and a year of expert advice on areas like sustainable development, communication, and financial management.
A new category, the Savoir-Faire Prize, was introduced this year to support the transmission of craftsmanship skills. Ana de Armas, a face of Louis Vuitton, presented this award to Standing Ground, designed by Michael Stewart. The prize includes a grant of 200,000 euros and a one-year mentorship from LVMH specialists.
Other finalists for the 2024 LVMH Prize included Aubero by Julian Louie (U.S.), Marie Adam-Leenaerdt (Belgium), Niccolò Pasqualetti (Italy), Paolo Carzana (U.K.), and Pauline Dujancourt (France).
This year’s jury featured new members Pharrell Williams, men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton, and Phoebe Philo, who recently launched her own brand backed by LVMH. Returning members included notable designers such as Jonathan Anderson, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Nicolas Ghesquière, Marc Jacobs, and Stella McCartney. They were joined by LVMH executives Delphine Arnault, Sidney Toledano, and Jean-Paul Claverie.
