Valentino opens L’Atelier Sonore in New York

A quiet space for listening and design, created with Terraforma

Maison Valentino introduces L’Atelier Sonore, an immersive sonic environment nestled within the mezzanine of its Madison Avenue boutique in New York. Opening May 15, 2025, the space is a collaboration with Italian cultural collective Terraforma, founded by Ruggero Pietromarchi, and marks Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s continued vision for layered, sensory experiences.

Conceived as a space for “deep listening and quiet contemplation,” L’Atelier Sonore features a bespoke sound system designed by sound artist Giorgio Di Salvo and a handcrafted listening console inspired by traditional cabinetmaking. Architect Francesco Lupia shaped the interior using patchworked fine wood veneers and modular velvet seating to form what the house calls “a harmonious architectural dialogue.”

The design evokes avant-garde listening salons—intimate, tactile, and deeply atmospheric. “The materials, surfaces, and draped fabrics” are meant to envelop guests in a blend of design, architecture, and sonic texture.

To mark the opening, Valentino and Terraforma will host a 10-hour live program on May 15, starting at 2:00 p.m., spotlighting artists from New York’s vibrant music scene and beyond. The lineup includes Laraaji, Lea Bertucci, Laurel Halo, Lizzi Bougatsos, Chuquimamani-Condori, Kevin Beasley, Veronica Vasicka, and Physical Therapy. Each will present 45-minute vinyl listening sessions drawn from their personal archives. “Artists are invited to share the records, the stories, and the silences in between,” the Maison notes.

Beginning May 9, a limited number of reservations for the opening event will be made available to the public via Valentino.com. From May 16 through the end of August, L’Atelier Sonore will remain open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., allowing visitors to explore a curated vinyl library and, on select days, attend special sessions hosted by Valentino’s friends of the house.

Understated yet carefully composed, L’Atelier Sonore serves as “both refuge and resonator—a vessel for the ever-shifting interplay between sound, material, and human connection.”
