Saint Laurent Productions furthers cinematic ties with a Jarmusch-led feature
Yves Saint Laurent is once again demonstrating its influential expansion beyond traditional fashion runways; its dedicated film division, Saint Laurent Productions, teams up with Jim Jarmusch to premiere a new feature, “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,” in competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival. This highly anticipated debut marks a significant milestone for the luxury house, solidifying its strategic pivot into auteur-driven cinema.
Under the visionary leadership of Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello, Saint Laurent Productions has rapidly carved out a unique space in the film industry. Unlike typical brand endorsements or fleeting collaborations, Saint Laurent’s venture into full-fledged film production is a direction that supports acclaimed filmmakers and aims to tell real stories. Vaccarello’s admiration for cinema is evident in the selection of Jim Jarmusch, who carries a distinctive minimalist style and character-driven narratives. This initiative builds on the previous successful showings at the Cannes Film Festival in 2023 and 2024, where Saint Laurent Productions showcased films by notable directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Jacques Audiard, Paolo Sorrentino, and David Cronenberg.
“Father, Mother, Sister, Brother” is structured as a poetic triptych, weaving three linked segments that delve into the intricate emotional terrain between adult children and their often distant parents. Set across different international backdrops—the northeastern United States, Dublin, Ireland, and Paris, France—the film depicts an intimate and observational series of character studies.
The ensemble cast features a strong lineup of talent, including Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, Vicky Krieps, and Sarah Greene, among others. Vaccarello’s direct involvement as both co-producer and costume designer infuses Saint Laurent’s signature style seamlessly, integrating a direct visual layer to Jarmusch’s storytelling.
This marks Saint Laurent Productions’ fourth full-length feature and its first venture into Venice’s main competition, following past years’ Cannes streak. The investment in meaningful cinematic projects aligns the brand with artistic excellence and cultivates a broader audience, going beyond the ephemeral nature of seasonal collections. The film’s eventual international release by Mubi will further amplify Saint Laurent’s prospective presence as a patron of independent cinema.
