The Editor-in-Chief Ends his Five Year Tenure Following Significant Shakeups Under the New Ownership of Karlie Kloss
Alastair McKimm, editor-in-chief of i-D Magazine, announced his departure from the publication, marking the end of his five-year tenure. Making the announcement via a statement to his Instagram account, the editor and stylist expressed gratitude to his team and collaborators for their support during his time at the helm, showcasing iconic i-D covers in his post.
McKimm’s exit coincides with significant changes at i-D, including the suspension of both print and digital publications as part of a strategic restructuring under new owner Karlie Kloss, who acquired the magazine from Vice Media. Kloss, now CEO of i-D, aims to revamp the business model to ensure a stronger future for the brand.
McKimm’s statement read, “After five years as fashion director and five years as editor-in-chief, it feels like the perfect time to move on and turn the page on the next chapter. I’d like to thank my incredible team and collaborators for your inspiration, dedication, patience and trust. A special thanks to our founders, Terry and Tricia Jones, you changed my life and paved the way for so many of us in this industry. I look forward to the future of i-D.”
The publication emphasized its commitment to reflecting youth culture through various creative mediums despite the temporary pause in publishing. The departure of McKimm and the magazine’s hiatus occur amidst broader shifts in the UK publishing landscape, reflecting ongoing challenges and transformations within the industry.
