Christopher Kane Host Art Exhibition In Vienna

Christopher Kane

Christopher Kane’s First Exhibition

Christopher Kane is exhibiting his first art exhibition Curated by Christopher Kane at galerie gugging in Vienna, Austria this summer. Gallery director, Nina Katschnig is thrilled that the collaboration is now coming to life, running from June – October 2022. Christopher’s artwork will be showcased with a curation of the Gugging Artists work, that he and sister Tammy Kane personally selected when they visited the space earlier this year.

“There’s a spontaneity to Art Brut or Outsider Art – that feeling of a skill or expression that just seems to come from nowhere.” — Christopher Kane

Foreword by Nina Katschnig:

It all started with Johann Hauser’s “Woman in a Yellow Dress”. When Christopher Kane saw this artwork, which reminded him of a dress in his Spring 2011 Collection called “Princess Margaret on Acid”, he began researching who this artist was that came so close to his design. That’s how he found his way to the galerie gugging and the museum gugging. His first visit was in the summer of 2016.

Inspired by this, he exhibited works by the Gugging Artists Johann Korec, Alfred Neumayr, Heinrich Reisenbauer, Arnold Schmidt, Jürgen Tauscher, Oswald Tschirtner, and Karl Vondal – perfectly staged to his current collection – in his flagship store in London on the opening night of Frieze London 2016. I had the honour to be present at
the time and was very impressed by the coherent presentation and the enthusiasm that Christopher & Tammy Kane conveyed for the Gugging Artists.

Motifs by Johann Korec and Heinrich Reisenbauer also inspired the designer for his Pre-Fall 2017 Collection and so the shooting for the lookbook took place on location at our gallery and the atelier gugging. Faces of Heinrich Reisenbauer on sweaters, ladies of Johann Korec on dresses … many wonderful collection pieces inspired by the two artists were created and my office acted as a fitting room for one day.

Over the years, we’ve always stayed in touch and that’s how I discovered through the social media platform Instagram that Christopher Kane started drawing himself in 2020 … again! He has always drawn as a child, with preference his mother. As a designer, he makes sketches, but what he started during lockdown is something entirely different.
