2024 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony Highlights Adaptive Clothing
The opening ceremony for the 2024 Paralympic Games was a memorable event, showcasing not only dazzling performances and pyrotechnics but also a global spotlight on adaptive clothing. The ceremony, held at Place de la Concorde, featured costumes designed by Louis-Gabriel Nouchi, continuing the event’s intersection of athletics and Parisian design.
LGN was responsible for the costumes of over 700 performers, including musicians like Gonzales, French DJ Myd, and Sébastien Tellier. Nouchi also dressed visually impaired soprano Luan Pommier in a spectacular white gown, and Christine and the Queens in a crimson suit for a powerful performance of Édith Piaf’s classic “Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.”
The designs for the evening ranged from tailored suits to sportswear, beginning with a palette of black and white that evolved into colors inspired by the French flag, culminating in a vibrant explosion of hues.
Nouchi emphasized the importance of inclusive fashion, noting, “There is a real appetite and very real demand,” and went on to add, “such designs are no harder than any other bespoke order. You just have to look at the person and their demeanor, working on the proportions and fit that will suit them rather than focusing on ‘adaptative’ tweaks.”
