Celine Names Michael Rider New Artistic Director, Succeeding Hedi Slimane
Celine has announced that Michael Rider will be its new artistic director, taking over from Hedi Slimane in early 2025. Rider, who served as Celine’s design director of ready-to-wear from 2008 to 2018, is returning to the French house after ten years.
Having graduated from Brown University and previously worked at Balenciaga, Rider has now joined Celine, with LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton confirming his role in overseeing all Celine collections.
Severine Merle, Celine’s chief executive officer, expressed her excitement about Rider’s return, praising his creative talent and connection to Celine’s heritage. Rider, on the other hand, shared his honor in contributing to Celine’s future.
LVMH aims to continue Celine’s success, keeping the winning template that Slimane established during his tenure. The French luxury group acknowledged Slimane’s significant growth of Celine, expanding the brand’s offerings such as men’s silhouette, couture, and fragrance.
While Slimane’s departure was recently announced, he is still widely regarded for his formidable fashion designs and contributions to Celine. As Celine prepares for a new chapter under Rider, the fashion industry awaits the brand’s future developments.
With uncertainties surrounding other major fashion houses and creative vacancies, the industry is in a state of transition. Slimane’s next move remains unknown, as he continues his legacy of energizing brands before moving on to new endeavors.
Celine’s evolution under Slimane’s direction has been widely praised, with the brand ascending to new heights of style and innovation. As Rider takes the reins, Celine fans and fashion enthusiasts alike are eager to see the maison’s continued growth and influence.
