Moschino Mourns the Loss of Creative Director Davide Renne

The Designer Suddenly Passed Away Just over a Week After Officially Stepping Into his New Role

Moschino creative director Davide Renne has passed away at the age of 46, just over a week after stepping into his new role at the Milanese house. There is as yet no confirmation as to his cause of death, which came far too soon and has rocked the fashion world which was eagerly awaiting his debut collection for Moschino.

“There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time. Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can’t believe what happened,” said Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Moschino’s parent company Aeffe SpA, via a statement posted to the brand’s Instagram. “With Davide, we were working on an ambitious project, in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and optimism for the future. Even though he was only with us for a very short time, Davide was able to immediately make himself loved and respected. Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends,” he said.

Renne was born on July 4th, 1977 in Follonica, Tuscany. The designer first worked under Alessandro Dell’Acqua, whome he described as “first teacher and mentor in fashion,” then went on to work at Gucci for over two decades as part of the womenswear design team, eventually being appointed Head Designer of Womenswear. He took over the role at Moschino from Jeremy Scott, and, speaking to his excitement about the role, said, “Franco Moschino had a nickname for his design studio: la sala giochi – the playroom. This resonates deeply with me: what fashion – Italian fashion especially, and the House of Moschino most of all, can achieve with its enormous power, should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. A sense of discovery, and experimentation. I can’t wait to begin – we’ll have fun. Together.”

As the world was eagerly awaiting his debut collection for Fall 2024, which was sure to chart a thrilling new course for one of Milan’s most distinct and imaginative brands, the news of Renne’s death leaves a poignant void in the future of fashion.

But more painful and important is the loss of a human being and artist who was described as warm, optimistic, and ambitious, who immediately had Moschino’s creative studio glowing with excitement about working together on their next chapter. The news has already sparked an outpouring of sympathy and grief on Renne’s social media channels from those who knew and loved him. He will be missed.
