Paris Top 10 Fall 2024 Fashion Shows

Kenneth Richard's Top Picks

Another season characterized by a tension between designing clothes for real life and designing clothes to move beyond or retreat from real life, the Fall 2024 season in Paris also featured exciting creative director debuts, brands struggling to find how to relate their historic identities to womanhood today, and – in an intriguing new trend – lots of interesting headwear.

Two very different debut collections dominated much of the conversation in Paris this season, and both of them earned spots on the Top 10: Seán McGirr’s divisive debut at Alexander McQueen and Chemena Kamali’s first Chloé collection that returned to the house’s legacy of airy femininity with a touch of boho.

Undercover had a standout show that saw Jun Takahashi put his inimitable mastery of blending effortlessly cool and chic streetwear with an avant-garde spirit through innovative construction in service of a versatile, everyday wardrobe. Meanwhile, Nicolas Ghesquière celebrated ten years at Louis Vuitton with a collection that continued to look forward into the future, while Miu Miu delved into memory to explore the sartorial transitions of young womanhood.

Courrèges earns the top spot with a collection that brilliantly explored breath and a body – complete with an amazing runway set that moved in a rhythmic breathing pattern of its own.
