Review of Just Cavalli Fall 2021 Ad Campaign by Photographer Byron Mollinedo of Aura Photo Agency with models Elodie Christ and Ivan
Just Cavalli serves up a dose of energetic early-aughties nostalgia with a Fall 2021 campaign by photographer Byron Mollinedo.
Launched in 1998 as a secondary line to Roberto Cavalli, Just Cavalli still maintains a lot of the stylistic hallmarks of that era, though not without a contemporary edge. With flames, metallics, and animal prints, the collection exudes the anything-goes maximalism and experimental self-expression that characterized the late 90’s and early 2000’s.
Captured in-studio, Mollinedo’s photographs bring these aesthetics and patterns out into the compositional space. Swathes of flame billow in the background; metallic surfaces ripple underfoot. The models exude a feeling of edgy, sexy glamor. Energetic art direction completes the mood with neon, painted-on text logos. While the approach and aesthetic of the campaign may feel anachronistic by contemporary standards, its energy is undeniable.
