Loewe Hosts Retreat at Houghton Hall for Magdalene Odundo Exhibition

Creative Director Jonathan Anderson Celebrates Artist’s Work with Exclusive Event

In honor of the Loewe Foundation’s sponsorship of Dame Magdalene Odundo’s exhibition at Houghton Hall, Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson hosted an exclusive weekend retreat at the Norfolk estate. The event featured a range of activities, including afternoon tea in the award-winning walled garden, exploration of the grounds, a private tour of Odundo’s exhibition, and an intimate dinner in the Picture Gallery. Guests enjoyed late-night cocktails on the lawn, taking advantage of the extended June twilight.

Notable attendees included Dan Levy, Archie Madekwe, Kit Connor, Josh O’Connor, Russell Tovey, Jeff Goldblum, Anson Boon, Guy Remmers, Magdalene Odundo, Ruth Wilson, Kristine Froseth, Naomi Ackie, Lesley Manville, and Rachel Jones, all dressed in Loewe.

The exhibition highlights new and existing works from Magdalene Odundo’s 40-year career. Known for her sculptural vessels influenced by various historical and contemporary cultures, Odundo employs traditional techniques to explore themes of diasporic identity and the role of objects in intercultural relationships. The exhibition features interventions within Houghton’s State Rooms, both enhancing and disrupting their functional and decorative schemes.

Key pieces include Odundo’s glass work “Metamorphosis and Transformation” (2011) and a major new commission created during her residency at Wedgwood, Stoke-on-Trent: a towering Jasperware centerpiece adorned with illustrations addressing the legacies of slavery and contemporary protest.
