BARNEYS NEW YORK continues their artisanal approach in their latest window partnership with the house of MARTIN MARGIELA’s JOHN GALLIANO

Barneys New York continues their foray into the future with their recent window partnership with John Galliano for Maison Marginal.

The display, set in Barney New York’s uptown windows, was put up just in time for NYFW: Women’s and juxtaposed different time periods, color, artistry and elements in typical Barneys fashion, making one think. And as it turned out that thinking began immediately upon meeting.

We met at his studio, which is really a cabinet of curiosities, and talked about his creative thinking from a very holistic point of view.  This project is extremely ambitious because it not only addresses the collections at hand, but also expresses his overall artistic process.

“Our collaboration with John Galliano started with a very in-depth discussion about his inspiration and design environment,” said Dennis Freedman, Creative Director at Barneys New York. ‘Environment’ being the operative word as Galliano really took into consideration an artistic appeal as he came up with pieces like a distressed shearling aviator cape with a display of floating wigs surrounding garments.

The impression loves the whales in motion within the windows themselves as moving elements made for whimsey and wink. Barneys New York has a long standing relationship both with designers and the city and we appreciate their window into each.
