Twin artists The Haas Brothers takeover Barneys’ window display this holiday season with Haas for the Holidays, an interpretation of the history of Earth.

Barneys New York is spreading a message of love, diversity and inclusion this holiday season, with a holiday window display by The Haas Brothers.

The display and campaign named Haas for the Holidays is an interpretation of Earth through the ages, and features characters created by the brothers like Rainbow Baggins the rainbow zebra and Rhinona Wyder the rhino in different time periods. The windows have four themes, Primordial, Utopia, Millennium, and Mushroom Singularity, each of which are enhanced by LED displays created by Christie.

Primordial, the first window, captures what Earth looked like over 3 billion years ago, with active volcanoes and undersea life, and the following window, Utopia, shows Earth at peace with a smiling sun and clouds, tall trees, and animals coexisting. The Haas Brothers inject color in the visual story with the Millennium window that has a rainbow backdrop and an abundance of flowers and plant life and with the psychedelic Mushroom Singularity window that features tall mushrooms and fungi.

“Holiday windows have always provided an escape from the everyday,” said Matthew Mazzucca, Creative Director, Barneys New York. “We were thrilled to collaborate with the Haas Brothers to tackle complicated themes through a unique lens of playful environments and characters. The result is a fun and engaging concept that celebrates individuality, inclusiveness and love.”

Twin brothers Nikolai and Simon began working on art together in 2007, touring with the band RIICCEE, and founded The Haas Brothers in 2010. The Los Angeles-based duo released their most recent work, Gorillas in the Mist, at the Aventura Mall in Miami, and their work is in permanent collections at The Met, RISD Museum, Cooper Hewitt and Smithsonian Design Museum.

“Working with Barneys New York to create Haas for the Holidays has been a one-of-a-kind experience,” said Simon and Nikolai Haas, Artists, The Haas Brothers. “We are excited to translate our artistic vision into experiences that will entertain and engage a whole new audience, and also shine a positive light on inclusiveness during these divisive times.”

Haas for the Holidays marks the first time Barneys will extend its holiday collaboration nationally. The campaign also includes #HaasRules in-store experiences at Barneys’ Madison Avenue, Downtown and Beverly Hills stores, a limited edition Haas Brothers XO Barneys New York merchandise collection and a social giving campaign.

The artists transformed the fourth floor of the Madison Avenue store with a colorful rock garden, brought a jungle theme to the Downtown store with snake graphic wrapping around the spiral staircase, and interspersed wave motifs at the Beverly Hills store. Customers are encouraged to share photos of themselves in each #HaasRules environment, and with each post with the #HaasRules hashtag, Barneys will provide a $5 donation for the Children’s Defense Fund.
