Bottega Veneta has a Snow Day at Lee House 2 for Fall 2017 Campaign
BY BRENNA O’DONNELL
At a crossroads of fashion and architecture lies the new Bottega Veneta campaign for fall 2017. The snowed-in shoot takes place at the notable Lee House 2 in New Canaan, Connecticut designed by famous architect John Black Lee, also known as the 6th member of the ivy-league architect group, the”Harvard 5.” Although Lee originally built his glass house in 1956, it was remodeled by architect Toshiko Mori in 1992 and again by Kengo Kuma in 2010.
I love architecture, which is why we always shoot our campaigns in world-renowned buildings
Every fall Bottega Veneta calls their campaign “The Art of Collaboration” as Creative Director Tomas Maier selects an acclaimed art photographer to capture the collection. This year, Maier chose the distinguished Todd Hido, whose own work often centers around urban and suburban housing. Hido takes advantage of the wintry outside scene while also showing off the unique structure of the house. The blinding white snow shines through the windows, contrasting with the rich colors and warm textures of Bottega Veneta’s fall collection.
The campaign is also accompanied by a short fashion film entitled “Mixed Messages” starring models Mariacarla Boscono, Simon Nessman, Grace Chen, and Eva Herzigova. The provocative story-line includes passing notes, pensive pacing, and a purposefully undefined ending. The transparency of the house paired with the idea of being snowed in creates a unique and gripping tension, with Bottega Veneta’s collection in focus.
