John Lewis’ Holiday 2017 Film Featuring Moz the Friendly Monster Under the Bed

BY STEPHANIE PETTWAY

Growing up some may have been afraid of having monsters under their bed. However, with John Lewis’ new 2017 Christmas ad, having the friendly monster, Moz, under your bed wouldn’t be so bad.

To a cover of The Beatles “Golden Slumbers” played by Elbow, John Lewis introduces us to a new friend, Moz the Monster, a snoring 7ft beast that lives under the bed of a little boy named Joe. After not being able to sleep for nights on end because of all the snoring, Joe decides to become friends with Moz, but at the expense of losing more sleep and not being able to stay awake throughout the day. Moz finally realizes what all the fun is costing and gives Joe a Christmas gift that will help him get the sleep he needs.

Continuing on a full wholistic campaign, like last year, John Lewis released items inspired by the campaign. Shoppers can take home a Moz plush Toy and mug, where 10% of the proceeds will go to Barnardo’s, the largest children’s charity in the UK. Other items, such a Moz the Monster Christmas Book, children’s slippers, and glow in the dark pajamas are also on sale.

Further catering to children, John Lewis has a Moz the Monster “Monster Maker” micro-site where kids can make their own monster, along with playing with Moz, watching him dance, and taking a selfie with him.

Though the campaign received mixed reviews from others, we at The Impression think John Lewis delivered a heartwarming Christmas ad complete with the love and sacrifice only a true friend can understand.
