Performance Artist Liu Bolin Blends In for Moncler Fall 2017 Campaign

BY BRENNA O’DONNELL

A brand born high in the French Alps, Moncler is no stranger to the cold. With this in mind, the Milan-based manufacturer headed to the glaciers of Iceland with performance artist Liu Bolin and photographer Annie Leibovitz to shoot their frigid fall 2017 campaign.

Using the same technique of total camouflage utilized in his popular performance art piece “Invisible Man,” Liu Bolin personifies a union between man and nature as both he and his Moncler outfit blend completely into the Nordic background. This conceptual campaign depicts the wintry aesthetic of Moncler existing in harmony with its natural surroundings, a belonging which is achieved through fashion, art, and pure creativity.

Leibovitz, who has shot the last six Moncler campaigns, worked with Bolin in the past for Moncler’s spring 2017 campaign, which made him and the signature down jacket invisible in New York City.
