International Women’s Day is undoubtedly very special this year. The annual day of women’s rights awareness, which was originally called International Working Women’s Day, is significant this year following the Women’s March on Washington in January and Women’s March organizers planning the “Day Without a Woman” strike for March 8.
The fight for gender equality has not lost its importance and now more people than ever, including those in the fashion industry, are joining the fray and being vocal about the need for positive change and progress.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Tory Burch Foundation released a video for its ‘Embrace Ambition’ campaign, calling for women to address the double standards and stigmas attached to the word ‘ambition’. Burch’s personal experiences as a woman and an entrepreneur served as inspiration to launch the campaign.
The PSA includes several women and men in fashion, sports, entertainment and business including Anna Wintour, Kerry Washington, Sheryl Sandberg, Melinda Gates, Laila Ali, Jon Hamm and Gabby Douglas encouraging women to be proud of their drive and to not shy away from ambition, which is often seen as a negative trait for women to possess
‘Embrace Ambition’ is a stellar way to start Women’s History Month, bringing energy to all those fighting the good fight for equality both this month and beyond.
