After a season of partnering as a collaborator, Versus Versace has appointed Anthony Vaccarello its new Creative Director. The Paris-based Vaccarello, who founded his namesake collection in 2008, will continue to design his line as well as be responsible for Versus men’s and women’s collections reporting to Donatella Versace.
Vaccarello created a capsule collection for Versus, which was shown in September in New York. His first full collection for the brand is the upcoming Fall 2015 collection. The collection is pulling a page from Azzedine Alaïa’s playbook and not following the fashion calendar, opting to show when it is ready.
The diffusion brand was launched in 1989 to much success but lost its luster over the last number of years. The house introduced a series of designer capsules after parting ways with designer Christopher Kane who worked on the label from 2009 to 2012. The first capsule designer was Jonathan William Anderson, aka J.W. Anderson, followed by English-Sri Lankan recording artist M.I.A.
Versace sold 20 percent of the firm to Blackstone Group last year and is in the mist of a new phase of brand expansion and fine tuning.
