16Arlington Co-Founder and Fashion Designer ‘Kikka’ Cavenati Passes at 28

Designer Federica Cavenati, known affectionately by her friends as Kikka, has sadly passed at the age of 28. Her family shared that she passed on October 18th after a short and sudden illness.

Cavenati founded and led cult London label 16Arlington with her partner Marco Capaldo. The pair met when she moved to the UK to study at London’s Istituto Marangoni, after which they launched their independent label to almost-immediate success. After just five seasons, the brand has ascended to an impressive level of notoriety and acclaim in the industry for its unique, subversive take on opulent evening glamor.

The 16Arlington team has released a statement addressing the tragic sense of loss they are feeling at their leader’s – and, more importantly, their friend’s – passing:

The word ‘special’ feels insufficient to assign to the forcefield of optimism, passion and kindness that was Kikka, but it is undoubtedly the most direct route to capturing her. Kikka was a white light; an unmistakable energy and the most encouraging, fiercely loyal friend. That the 16Arlington studio will no longer ring with her wicked laughter and boundless appetite for creativity is a tragic loss to all those lucky enough to know her. She will be forever missed.”

It was also announced that Capaldo will present an unseen collection in Cavenati’s honor in February of 2022.

The design world, both in London and internationally, will lament the loss of such a promising creative visionary – but even more so will we miss the uplifting, affirming, and bright presence of this young person tragically gone far too soon. Our thoughts are with all her friends, family, and loved ones.
