While each season tends to have its standout colors, the runways of Fall 2021 have caught our eyes with distinct recurrences of four beautifully bright colors – hot pink, citron, vivid sky blue, and lily orange. While the different flavors of these colors are gorgeous in themselves, it has been thrilling to see how different designers have chosen to make use of them: whether they marry them with other colors, subdue them with silhouettes, or let them sing boldly on their own.
Many designers played into the primly feminine connotations of hot pink, while labels like Lanvin and Thebe Magugu, subverted this tradition through more masculine suiting. Ludovic de Saint Sernin uses a minimalist touch of citron green for a maximally eye-catching effect. Plan C, Berluti, and Prada seemed to be on a similar wavelength, as they each unveiled strong visions of a sky-blue trench coat. Kenzo and Roksanda explore dynamic, ballooning shapes in bright lily orange that completely reshape the boundaries of the body. Versace shook up their signature formula, replacing maximalist collisions of color and pattern with bold and focused bursts of a single bright color.
