Review of Iggy Pop Fronts Campaign for New Cutler & Gross x The Great Frog Eyewear Collection by Photographer Jack Waterlot with Talent Iggy Pop
by Billie Rose Owen
Cutler and Gross & The Great Frog have teamed up to launch an exclusive eyewear collection, oozing a blend of rock ‘n’ roll coolness and luxury taste.
On the shores of Coral Gables, Miami, photographer Jack Waterlot captures Punk Rock musician Iggy Pop lounging in a sleek, cream-cushioned convertible, shielding the Florida sun with the bold, unisex shades.
The launch includes three sunglasses and two opticals. Each model is handcrafted in Cutler and Gross’s timeless silhouettes, embellished with the 925 sterling silver emblem that marks the iconic, punk-rock branding of The Great Frog. For this exclusive launch, the emblem takes the form of The Reaper, Crossbones, and Dagger symbols, welded on the temples and frontals of the frames.
In a relaxed but pensive posture, Pop embodies the moodiness of the collection: The frames are offered in earth-toned browns, lush reds, subdued greys, and military green, complete with deep black and gradient lenses that serve a dramatic mystery.
The collaboration fuses Cutler and Gross’s traditional, luxury craftsmanship with The Great Frog’s alluringly gauche details, tapping into iconicity and the ever-pulsing subcultures of heavy metal, rockers, punks, and bikers. For this match made in eyewear heaven, there would be no one better suited to represent it than the Godfather of Punk himself. As Pop gazes into the southern shoreline, undisturbed with an intrinsic coolness, we agree with his take on the collection: “These shades say something”.

The objective of this collaboration was simple; to merge both our stylistic codes. Incorporating The Great Frog’s irreverent aesthetic and our fundamentals of design to create something dramatic but wearable. From the rivets to the hinges, to the acetates and chain temple core, the materials were very important to us. It was also the first time we got to experiment with sterling silver applications, which was exciting for us. The result is a collection that is visibly robust, classic with a twist and the perfect blend of both our brand DNA’s”
– Alessandro Marcer, Creative Director for Cutler and Gross
