For their latest Fall 2018 Dolce & Gabbana women’s ad campaign the crew once again cast off for another Italian designation. This time landing in The Eternal City, Rome, to mingle with tourist, nuns, priests, and fake Praetorian Guards for a campaign lensed by brothers Luca & Alessandro Morelli.
Models Samile Bermannelli, Aira Ferreira, Chiara Scelsi, Hyun Ji Shin, and Sija Titko take on the role of tourist playfully visiting iconic Roman site including the Colosseum, Vatican City, Trevi Fountain, The Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona.
The casting reflects the desired diversity of the intended audience while the playful street casting reflects the design duos love for all things Italian. And for good measure they tossed some spaghetti in too.
This season feels as though the house has a better understanding that less is more as despite the breath of colorful pops every two inches, the campaign is more focused than the previous seasons which took place in Naples and Capri where crowds gathered around the models wearing clothes with other labels on them.
And while Italy is full of riches from Cinque Terre to Paloma, The Impression would like to see Dolce & Gabbana reclaim their lost ownership of forward and innovative campaigns addressing bigger themes than the spirit of travel. But until then we will simply enjoy or pasta while people watching in the square.
