For Gucci’s latest Fall 2018 ad campaign, Creative Director Alessandro Michele has once again teamed with Artistic Director Christopher Simmonds and photographer Glen Luchford to blend eclecticism and storytelling. This season that story, “Gucci Collectors,” borrows upon a Mad Hatter of a tea party complete with an eccentric cast of characters and a monkey no less
The viewer is lead Through the Looking Glass and What Alice FoundThere to a series of shots featuring the cast among peculiar collectables. Cuckoo clocks, wigs, tea sets, plus toys, puzzles and more provide the backdrop as the allegory that Gucci pieces are also items to collect.
The campaign is perfectly suited for the thrift store eclectic aesthetic of the house that blends the eccentric look of Edith and Edie Bouvier Beale of Grey Gardens fame with the Cheshire smile of Lewis Carroll. Hitting the youth movement who is newly discovering the look at flea markets globally.
While Lewis certainly penned “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will take you there,” the team of Michele, Simmonds, and Luchford are far from the maddening crowd and certainly know where they are going. Straight to their customers hearts.
