La Perla has launched an ad campaign for the Dreamcatcher collection, a selection of washable silk lingerie and nightwear inspired by vintage 70’s simplicity and elegance, as designed by La Perla’s Creative Director Alessandra Bertuzzi. The ad campaign features 6 women expressing their unique personalities and showing how they would spend a “dreamy day” while sporting night robes, silk slips, lacy baby doll dresses, and wireless triangle bras. In order of appearance below, the ad campaign stars are: Quentin Jones, Sharon Alexie, Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Langley Fox, Marta Cygan, and Iris Law.
Since the films and photography were created at various locations during self-isolation due to COVID, the results are a mixed bag. Some of the images seem pedestrian or feel a little forced, while others are beautifully inspired (and therefore inspiring). Of course, “who” is in the campaign matters much more than “what” they are doing; for instance Iris Law is the model daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, and Julia Restoin Roitfeld is a French art director and daughter of Carine Roitfeld, the former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris who is currently global fashion director for Harper’s Bazaar.
The campaign’s two short films take the prize for the best DIY marketing; first is a fun, care-free finger-painting spree starring Quentin Jones and her adorable curly-haired toddler. As they twirl about and get messy, Jones manages to look lovely without even seeming to try, and the sound of cicadas in the background gives the film an irresistible summer ambiance. Similarly, Sharon Alexie looks sumptuous as she paints impasto-style in a layered film montage that plays out to retro jazz music and the sounds of birds chirping. Less successful are the offerings from Langley Fox and Julia Restoin Roitfeld, who spent portions of their dreamy days unpacking a cardboard box, doing some yard work, and washing a range rover. These attempts to capture at-home realness are admirable but the resulting images are lackluster, with the exception of a few photos of Fox sketching on her balcony in the bright LA sunshine, in which her two-tone locks mirror the shiny black silk robe to perfection. Last but not least, we have Marta Cygan with some freshly picked wildflowers, and Iris Law eating icecream. Happily, the campaign ends on these high notes because picking flowers and then treating oneself to an icecream cone (with sprinkles!) would make for a dreamy summer day indeed.
