There is a shorthand at play when artists of high caliber team together consistently, each playing the role of a motivator to the other to push boundaries and redefine genres. Such is the case in the continued collaboration between Creative Director Raf Simons, photographer Willy Vanderperre and stylist Olivier Rizzo.
For their spring 2019 outing, the trifecta opted for a reflection on the details of the collection to build an artisanal narrative around. The juxtaposing of the campaign is more than that of simple black and white with color, it is of a moment, like a memory, with a detail. Those moments are beautifully cropped to reflect an intimacy, drawing the viewer into a moment of someone close.
The details of the collection have a sense of witticism playing off six-packs of beer. Pull tops from beer cans have been glamorized as luxurious earrings, while six-pack rings that hold the cans together in the supermarket shelves have been repurposed in leather as a belt chain. The idea is distinctly modern while punk simultaneously and had the collection been shot at full frame the elements would have been lost.
Thankfully this crew is not lost, and nor is their intelligence, artisans eye on us.
