Review of The Marc Jacobs Holiday 2020 Ad Campaign by Photographer Sharna Osborne, Stylist Lotta Volkova with Kylie Minogue
The Marc Jacobs teams up with Kyle Minogue for a campaign that we just can’t get out of our head. Photographer and filmmaker Sharna Osborne captures the iconic pop queen in her signature lo-fi style.
With her impossible-to-dislike personality and decades of international renown, the original Kylie is an excellent choice for any campaign, and her presence combined with Osborne’s eye puts this one over the top. Minogue has a tendency to work with unique photographers who experiment with different looks for her, and this has resulted in lots of influential and ever-shifting imagery of her appearing across myriad magazines in the realm of fashion.
Osborne seems to have this history in mind as she captures Minogue in her trademark lo-fi studio style. Minogue is intoxicatingly expressive, slipping naturally from confident, elegant seduction to self-deprecating goofiness. She seems to both revel in her sex-icon status and to make fun of it. Work from influential stylist Lotta Volkova also goes a long way in highlighting different aspects of Minogue’s personality.
Combining smart casting and creative decisions with a carefree and exuberant playfulness, the campaign is tons of fun.
