The Store Scout | TORY SPORT Flat Iron District

In the era of sports leggings as the staple uniform, Tory Burch has wisely launched her first Tory Sports boutique in New York City’s Flatiron District.

The 3,900 square-foot store, located at 129 Fifth Avenue, follows upon the houses successful pop-up shop, which launched on Elizabeth Street in September 2015. Giving proof that even in athletic apparel it is always better to walk before you run.

Ever the brander, the exterior facade features brand blue awnings and windows with large screens to feature videos/images that celebrate athleticism.

We are thrilled to open the first Tory Sport store. We thought about the casual vibe of a Seventies surf lodge and reimagined it with Scandinavian design principles. With clean, simple lines and a completely flexible interior, the store balances functionality with style.

– Tory Burch, CEO and Designer

A blue entryway, finished with high-gloss white stripes that tie back to the graphic Tory Sport logo, leads into a space that features white-washed oak pegboards on modular walls and adjustable display units in nickel to maximize its flexibility. Overall the interior plays with juxtaposition of shine and matte along with natural and modern materials. There is a subtle nod to sports throughout — leather handrails evoke the grips of old-school tennis racquets, striped floors resemble pool lap lines, and a diamond pattern etched into nickel wall panels references a net.

In the subsequent room, there is a seating area anchored by a minimalist fireplace, four Jean Royère chairs with indigo linen cushions and a concrete and nickel table and flanked by two Royère sconces.

It is always nice to see the next wave of a designer emerge and with 170 Tory Burch boutiques across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, one can easily see Tory Sport rolling out globally as well. Insert whatever sport metaphor you would like here, but to The Impression, we just like the strategy of the coach.
