Valentino Collaborates with Betony Vernon on Rockstud Alcove
Provocateur Betony Vernon Partners With Valentino On Garavani Rockstud Alcove Collection
Maison Valentino and longtime friend Betony Vernon have collaborated on the Garavani Rockstud Alcove Collection. The launch will be combined with the release of the third reprinting of Vernon’s book “The Boudoir Bible”, featuring a custom VG Rockstud Alcove sleeve.
Valentino worked side by side with Vernon, who applied her pioneering and refined approach to erotism, to create the Garavani Rockstud Alcove collection. The collection includes handbags and shoes in Valentino’s signature studded surfaces, as well as a voyeuristic peep box, conceived to secretly admire these new objects of desire. Valentino sees the collaboration as introducing a new idea of femininity that grants the willingness to be romantic, powerful and graceful, as well as fierce.
Vernon, known for her eccentric and passionate personality, is an American-born sexual anthropologist and erotic designer and author, based in Paris. Described as daring, provocative and boundary-defying, her aesthetic is formed by her explorations in spirituality, sex, sensuality and the erotic body realm. Her design work has been included in a number of International exhibitions from the Victoria and Albert Museum in London to The Triennale Design Museum in Milan. She has also designed for several brands including Missoni, Gianfranco Ferré, Alexander Wang and Fornasetti.
First, published in 2013, “The Boudoir Bible” is considered an essential pillow book for both men a women. Written from a joyful, sex-positive point of view, and beautifully illustrated by renowned artist Franҫois Berthoud, it’s authoritative chapters are dedicated to sex acts often considered taboo. Vernon replaces the concepts of shame and guilt with the possibilities of joy and ecstasy.
Valentino has intentionally chosen selected erotic bookshops and sensual locations to reveal the collection and book release, with activations in Paris, Madrid, Milan, London, Los Angeles, New York and Seoul.
