Virgil Abloh Joins Jonathan Anderson as the Second Guest of Pitti Uomo 92. The Off-White Founder and Creative Director Will Present the Label’s SS18 Menswear Collection and a Women’s Pre-Collection.
Virgil Abloh has collected a number of accolades in less than five years, further cementing his legitimacy as one of the top designers in the US. In addition to being one of the finalists for the 2015 LVMH Prize, the Off-White Creative Director and Founder can add yet another honor to his career: Special Guest at Pitti Uomo 92.
Alongside J.W. Andserson designer Jonathan Anderson, Abloh will present his Off-White Spring/Summer 2018 menswear collection and part of his womenswear collection at the Florentine menswear trade show on June 15.
In a time that’s mixing the traditional hierarchies amongst fashion, streetwear and role distinctions, Virgil Abloh has transformed his own lifestyle into a successful brand. He has led Off-White to full stylistic maturity without losing his, sometimes very immediate and impudent, brashness that made his name in the beginning. – Lapo Cianchi, Pitti Immagine Director of Communications & Events
Abloh founded Off-White, known by its full name as Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh, in 2013 and redefined high fashion by combining it with streetwear and by blurring the lines between accessible fashion and luxury. Born in Rockfold, Illinois in 1980, Abloh displayed his creative direction prowess through Kanye West, collaborating with the musician/fashion designer on numerous albums and tours, including the Watch the Throne album and tour with Jay Z and the Yeezus Tour.
The architect and designer utilizes his civil engineering and architecture background to produce collections for Off-White and collaborations with artists such as Nick Knight, Riccardo Tisci, Kim Jones, Takashi Murakami, Olivier Rousteing, George Condo, and Silvia Venturini at Fendi, and brands such as Moncler, Fragment Designs with Hiroshi Fujiwara and recently Kith. Prior to establishing Off-White, Abloh launched brand Pyrex Vision and opened RSVP Gallery in Chicago.
It’s with great honor that I will be debuting my work as part of Pitti Immagine Uomo 92. I recognize that this platform is amongst the most important arenas for recording fashion history over the years, and it’s my goal to add a unique chapter to that story.- Virgil Abloh
